Default Puppy portrait

Yes I know the puppy is cute. But how did I do with this little guys portrait? Is the crop too tight? Or should tightened it more? I feel like the exposure is pretty good. It was tough not to blow the yellow fur out too much.
Thanks for any comments!

He is a darling pup..I think if his head was turned a little more camera right, it would have a better feel to it. Don't forget to shoot in the vertical too, this allow more of his body in.

I couldn't get the dog to look at me for any amount of time. It was frustrating!! And shooting horizontal is so much more natural, and I had a hard time breaking that habit. But thinks for the help!!

Oh, what a little cutie. He does look a bit mischievous though.

I have a yellow lab too and also find exposure a bit difficult, especially in bright sunlight. I really have to watch the histogram and adjust the settings when taking photos of him.

As far as getting him to look at you, have you tried any noise makers? I got an app for my little phone that plays a variety of sounds like a siren, a car horn, and a whiny violin. (So far, every dog has been intrigued by the violin.) If you don't have one of those phones, you could try making silly sounds ... my last dog was particularly fond of hiccups and sneezes. They quickly get used to the sounds though so you have to work fast and always look for new material.
