Well viewed on my iPhone the blacks look very black.

The histogram showed no clipping though, and it looked good on the PC.

Any ideas?

Good photo. I see detail in his fur in the black areas and the focus is good, but isn't on the eyes. With dogs that have a long nose it is better to use a higher f/stop to get more DOF. Composition is good. Nice light and airy portrait. No big issues to me. Maybe a slight lack of contrast with the background but it isn't objectionable.

The iphone probably has a limited color space and is translating the blacks and losing the detail.
