Default Quuick shot of my piglet

My piglet Orson decided that my backdrop would be a great place for a nap. I grabbed my camera and took some shots.
I really liked this one but there really was no color since the back ground is a light grey and the pig is already balck and white so I just changed it to B&W.
It does seem to be missing something in the way of.....I don't know, it's black and white but it needs more.....more....contrast? But when I tried that it blew out the white.
What does it need to make it something other then a cute snapshot.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

My camera is a Nikon D90
I used my 18-55 VR lens which I thought was GREAT on my D50 but I'm not so happy with the quality on the D90. The only thing it still does great is good macro and/or detail shots
F5.6
SS 1/1000
No flash....just window light.
ISO 1600
My camera was on auto and for some reason it often thinks I need that high of an ISO. I haven't read the manual yet. Going from the D50 to the D90 has been like learning to take pictures all over again!! Very frustrating.

He's a little cutie! My friend has 4 rescued piggies and the last one she got, Bernice, is the sweetest little thing ever. Well, she's not that little any more but still sweet.

Anyway, on to the photo ...

For me, it's missing the eye. I so want to see it but it's so dark. If you were able to bring that out a bit, I think it might help. You might try cropping some off the right since that side is so white. My eye keeps going to it instead of the sweet little face.

Not bad though. You have quite a range from black to white to try to capture and that's pretty tough on the sensor.

Thank you for the input. I'll give it a try....I may be able to lighten the area where his eye is but it is closed so no catch lights there.

You could try creating a catchlight. It's tricky to make them look natural, but it's possible. If one eye has one, you can always clone it. If not, you might be able to take one from another image.Of course, you have to have the software for it.
