Zach, nice pup. You want a critique but you didn't specify on what you wanted a critique on? Also, you will get more responses if you post the photo inline using the 640 pixel size rather than a link off site. I clicked because I wanted to help you as you are new here, welcome to DPS by the way.

Nice B&W conversion, but the focus is on the nose not the eyes and the perspective is average. Shooting down is how everybody does it and it makes for a nice snapshot but not a memory evoking image.

Nice photo! The only thing I would suggest is to change the perspective a little. Maybe lay on your stomach on the ground to get to your dog's level so you can focus on his face more? I am no pro but I hope this helps a little bit.

It looked fine, but I like the black and white version better.

I could get a little bit closer to the ground, I guess, but I wouldn't get the shot I wanted. I was fairly low to the ground the way it was. Thank you otherwise.

I am confused on how to post pictures onto this website. It is rather confusing. I had the camera on autofocus, and the camera focused on the nose. I would have focused on the eyes had I known that it would make a difference. But I didn't notice much of a difference. The perspective may be average, but I wanted to include the entire length of the legs and the entire head and neck, and if I scooted the head farther to the left, I would have gotten an unwanted and much distracting tree trunk. Thank you very much for the critique. I will know how to better my photos using your tips.

Go to your Flickr and open up the 640 pixel size, right click on the photograph and on the drop down menu pick "copy link location". Come back to DPS and the thread you are posting to and "go advanced". In the advanced mode click on the photo icon and paste the URL in the dialog box, making sure you don't double up on the "http//" already there. Done.

If you had gone around to the other side and had him look at you the tree trunk would have been behind you. Was there other distracting stuff on that side as well? Like I said it was a average perspective but that is certainly not a slam on an otherwise good photograph. The focus on the nose with a great enough DOF would have resulted in the eyes being in focus. This would have resulted in a need for a longer shutter speed or a higher ISO setting or the use of a reflector/flash to add fill light in order to correctly expose the scene.
