Default gossling - are my settings right

After sitting in the park for 2 hours after work and 187 pics, this is the only one I fell in love with......I love it, but that doesn't mean it's great. I'm learning my settings, are the ones I used good or would different ones have made it better. It was a very sunny day.

Hello - I really like this photo! I can see that the camera focused mainly upon the beak area, which for me, makes it very interesting.

I want to see what the others think because I'm learning also, but you may want to shoot at a lower iso especially if it was really sunny like you said. See this page for more information: ISO Settings in Digital Photography

Thanks, weird thing is that even though it was sunny, lowering my ISO when I was trying to get this shot made me have to use too slow a shutter speed to make my light meter happy and I didn't have my tripod with me. The blonde hair made me forget it at home hahhaha

The ISO speed should not be much of a factor on that camera anywhere 800 or less.

I probably would have chosen a smaller aperture (f/8-11) to optimize sharpness for that lens. You were apparently quite close so the smaller aperture would have added a little DOF without bringing the BG into focus. I would have accepted a higher ISO or slower SS for this subject.

Part of your issue with the ISO/SS and the image is you are on the shadow side of the subject....Having some fill light would have helped and would have added a catchlight to the eye. I would have considered using the built in flash with the FEV turned down a full stop or two.

Ditto.. it happens all the time to me.. I feel why to use flash when it is bright and sunny out there. Right? I know now, thank steve!

I liked your picture minus the shadow
