Default Waiting....

They say photograph what you love... so I do.... a lot.... lol. Poor dog. I have to think he is so sick of my phone in his face... wonder how annoyed he'll be when I get my Cannon...

What do you all think of the composition of this pic? He was sitting on the couch looking out the window, waiting for my sister to get home from work. He just looked so intense!

Still using my HTC phone. Did a ton of different edit things and picked this one out as for which I liked the most. I haven't gotten my own software yet but it needed something... the screen in that window did not look pleasing in the pic at all.

I'm mostly wondering what everyone thinks of the composition. Does it work? Its adorable to see him sitting there, staring, waiting for her... was just trying to capture his "Where's Auntie? I know she's coming.... just wait... she'll be here!" I tried multiple angles but I feel like this one worked best.

No exif data for either... sorry :-(

I lied.... I see now that it's actually a completely different pic from a different angle, but still, no editing I don't think. So even better I guess... does the comp in the second work better? Does the comp work at all?

I'm brand new to this, but I like the color and the light in the first one better than the second. It just seemed more natural and the whites were really sharp against the darker background

Here's another... I believe its the exact same shot, just cropped and without other editing.

You can blur the screen in the window just a little and reduce the exposure on the light outside the window just a notch. The screen will not look so unpleasant. I did it and it does not look so bad. I hope you do not mind that I edited your picture, but I loved the expression on your dog's face looking out the window; I couldn't help myself. If I knew how to post a picture with my reply, I'd do it, so that you could see it.

I love the photos, such a cute dog! You must be very talented to do this on your phone.
I'm new to this as well, so I don't really feel I could do you justice with any criticism but I would say personally I like the position of his paw better in the second photo. In the first one it is a bit too flush with his nose and it took me a minute to figure out that it was his foot and not something weird going on with his mouth (but that could just be me lol). In the first photo you can see the nice flash on his forehead better though.
I actually liked the coloring of the second shot; it has quite a retro look which I find very appealing. But then I didn’t mind the screen either so what do I know...

Thanks for the opinions guys! And Tito.... I wish you knew how! I'm going to purchase some software tonight and start trying to teach myself how to do all of those types of things. Right now I'm just using picassa and some other auto tools.

Sure, no problem. Two layers: one for the window and one for the dog.
Window: reduced exposure and applied Gaussian Blur.
Dog: Increased exposure( just slightly), set black and white points with the Levels slider, Photo filter to get rid of the color cast, and a little sharpening with the High Pass Filter.
I think that's all. I don't quite remember if I did something else-- I did it more than a week ago.
