Default Rockne "reading"

Currently waiting to get my "big-girl camera" and am only using an HTC Incredible until then. Other than your standard point and shoot I'm very new to photography so I would love any critiques. Bc I'm using a camera phone the things I have controls over are fairly limited. I can control ISO, zoom, "brightness level" (which I'm thinking is just changing the ISO) and the rest is up to me.

Thanks for looking!

Well to work within your tool's ability is pretty good. It seems your setting for WB is off. The overall colorcast detracts from your wonderful composition. Also, if you are going to be working with HTC phone camera for a bit you may want to look into some post processing software. There are free trials out there, just google.

Best camera is the one you have with you. While your camera might not give you much control, you could do a lot with post-processing. You could start with the Photoshop.com Mobile app for Android, and then move on to a desktop application. Suggest you give something like Picasa a whirl, or possibly grab something like the Gimp or Photoshop Elements to really play.

So the composition was ok? I'm trying to work on that and POV right now.

With just having the HTC right now I'm trying to focus on composition, focal points, etc. Because all of that is so new and I plan to have a real camera in about a week and a half I haven't even attempted post processing yet other than with one of those fun google apps. I did download the Gimp.... but..... I have to confess..... learning all the post production stuff seems.... SCARY lol.

Are there any good tutorials on post production for VERY new beginners?

I love the black and white!!!

The composition is beautiful. The problem is the White Balance. Yes, there are good tutorials on post production for "VERY new beginners".
You should try photoshopessentials.com.

Yes, the composition is very good. I would suggest you look for lightroom 3 for a canon type camera or Capture NX 2 if you choose Nikon for your camera.

It is not scary, believe me. You just need to really get into it. I used to feel exactly the same way you feel now: I thought photoshop was impossible to learn-- I mean, I'm not an expert, not even close, but I more or less know my way around photoshop now, and I haven't been doing it for a long time-- I'm just a beginner. You need dedication and a real desire to learn.
Wish you the best.

I agree! I know I have no problem sitting and editing for hours... I do it now with those cheesy fun online apps... I think I'm just anxious to get started. I get my new camera next Monday or Tuesday (using my summer financial aid to purchase a used one from a photog friend) and I'll go ahead and purchase software then.

I assume whichever software I get will come with some sort of tutorial? Also, I'm going to be getting a Canon... should I get both Photoshop and Lightroom? I feel like from what I've read many people use both?

I like your angle and the way the photo carries.....but the lighting is distracting. When the nice man Jim edited it into a black and white, you could really see how nice your compostion was! I am just learning as well and a lot of mine end up kind of off colored too
