Default My Baxter

This is a picture of our Boxer. We just recently lost him to a hit and run. I enjoyed taking pictures of him, he was very photogenic for me. One of my favorites of him, you can see deep into his eyes. Such a happy dog. My Baxter. Would love some feedback, still new at photography.

Oh man I am so sorry. That's so sad. I do hope you had some great years and got lots of great photographs to remember him by.

And it's really hard to critique knowing the story but I'll give it a try ...

Overall, it works pretty well for me because his sweetness comes shining through ... he has such adoring eyes. The focus may be falling just short of his pupils though (looks like it might be more on the eye lids?) It's a tough shot to pull off for sure but a deeper aperture might help a bit, give you a little more room for error. I don't know what your focus point was but in a shot like this, I would try to focus on the reflection in the pupil. Like I said, not an easy shot to pull off but ya did pretty good.

And in all honesty, the slight focus issue doesn't really matter here to me. You captured a moment of sweetness that you can remember him by and that often supercedes any slight technical shortcomings.
