Giving the birds and bush a miss, I moved out into the sun today. I gave the Shutter Speed priority and was generally pleased with the varied captures I managed although I failed to capture a butterfly in flight. Up until today I hadn't given the Monach butterfly credit for being able to detect that I was stalking her. Others times I'm sure they've just flitted about under my nose, today she would move on as soon as I appeared very near her
![]() I love the colours here but is the background too dark? And I don't think I've nailed the focus once again. But I feel that's because I'm still a fair distance from the subject, she was up above me on a bank and in the middle of an overgrown garden. Any thing else? Thanks for looking. ![]() Exif data Camera Sony DSLR-A350 Exposure 0.001 sec (1/1000) Aperture f/6.3 Focal Length 250 mm ISO Speed 200

I think it's a great capture. However, if the background was a bit lighter, we'd then see the full outline of the butterfly's wings. The rear edge of its wings is just a tad soft, but the leading edge and body looks spot on. One stop closed down would have given you the right DOF I would imagine. But, I really like this colourful image.

this is a great shot you have composed it brilliantly
what have you done pp whise? it looks like you could probably use curves to brighten the background a little otherwise well done

Thanks Bruce, to get that one stop down I would have to move to manual right? The camera set the aperture based on my selected shutter speed. Some of my other shots looked better, they had a brilliant blue sky background but sadly I didn't get the focus!
Sloseph, thanks for your compliments re composition. It's SOOC other than cropped. Thanks fro the suggestions I've just been reading & learning a little about curves(I'm new to Photoshop) so will have a go and see what I can do..
