I've done a bit of cropping to this and dropped the light behind the dove to take out the hedge and make it stand out. I'm very much a beginner and would be grateful for any critique or suggestions. Particularly grateful for comments on the background and whether the water splash adds or detracts from the overall image.
Nikon D5000 Focal length 90 1/500th at f5.6 I had to raise the ISO to 500 to freeze the flight - is noise an issue? Last edited by Jinks; 05-30-2011 at 01:06 AM. |

Noise isn't an issue, but you have blown out several areas in the image.
both the dove and the splashing water are blown out. They have lost quite a bit of detail Why would you have to raise your ISO ? Looks like a very bright day to me. The capture in itself is nice though and both water and background don't bother me.

Thanks Fran
Although it was a bright day the fountain, where I metered, was in deep shade so I needed to get the shutter speed right up and that probably contributed to the blow out. Unfortunately I'm not at all good with PP techniques so it's going to be trial and error to correct it. |

yeah i think you should just put it on "S" Shutter priority and set your f/stop manually, then if you meter it right, it should be fine.
