I am still very new to this and I took this picture today which i think is ok but I want to know what you pro's think of it and what you would have done different. I have only had the camera a month!!!

Well your going to have to wait for the pro's to chime in but as a rookie I can tell you I try to keep my ISO at about 200 during the day. If I can get a fast enough shutter speed 800/1000 (for birds) I will drop it 100 ISO I also try to keep it around f5.6 to 8 for my lens unless I shhot landscape then go to f11 or f14. I only know what I read. I take a note pad with me and when I see a shot I like I write down what the photographer used for settings then try to use it when I am setting up a shot. Works well for me it is just a small shirt pocket note pad.
For your picture though it is very pretty you got a blue from the sky cast on the water and the bird himself is in focus. He is a big bird and your f14 is likely the reason you achived such a sharp focus of him.Congradulations on your camera purchase. What did you buy? Are you using a kit lens or did you purchase something else? |

Thanks for this, sound advice. I tend to leave it on auto ISO as I'm still learning but I am happy with the sharpness of the photo. It is a Canon 500D I purchased that came with 2 lenses but they don't have IS so are pretty basis me thinks!!! I try the same shot on different settings then check them out when I upload them and see which works best. Thanks again.
