Default NZ Pied Shag

Please tell me I'm finally getting the hang of this
Although I am still struggling with the crop. I tend to want to fill the left hand side(or the right) with the subject. If I crop with say his eye on the third then there is so much empty space. Is it acceptable to have his eye on the right hand third line and his body filling the middle and left if you get what I mean? Also I usually crop to 4x6 but have started to do 8x10 because the picture seems to look better to my eye. I'm assuming if it's a "custom" crop when(and if) it gets printed there will be problems. If it's just for computer viewing is the cropping size critical? Hmm...I think I need to search for some more info on cropping.

It looks good to me.
I just crop so it looks on my screen.
If it means "an unusual print size or doesn't fill a "standard" page so be it.

Very nice shot. I like the crop as is. I think you've got just the right amount of space on the right hand side, considering that is the direction the bird is facing. I wouldn't mind seeing just a wee bit more above the head but it's hard to say what you had there to begin with - colours, distractions?

Nice capture. For me I wouldn't change a thing. I think it looks great.

Thank you so much Peggyjom, NgaiHill & dvtldav for your comments. I like this shot very much too. I love his eye, it looks like lead light & coloured glass. NgaiHill, I do have room above his head, it's more of the sandbar so nothing to distract. I think I cropped so close because I was using a pre-set crop. I'll redo it with a custom crop and leave a little more. Thanks for the suggestion. I did feel it was cropped a bit close to his tail but I didn't have anymore to play with there.
