Love the atmosphere. The sense of distance is very nice with the blacks in the foreground to the greys in the background. I also see some pretty nice contrast from what looks to be a blah winters day.
Compositionally, it feels rather weighted to the left with very little of interest on the right to balance the image. The leading line of the fence is nice and does help a little. If you had been able to move to your left and get the horses to the right of the building, that might have felt more balanced, to me anyway. Have you by chance tried a square crop? Might be worth a go. The black and white conversion is pretty good. The only issue I have is that the horses are very dark and so is the fence which makes them kinda one thing. If you could lighten the fence just a bit, I think that would help separate them. Overall though, pretty good effort.

Hmm....that's weird. I really did not do a lot to this picture. I converted to black and white and brought out the shadows a bit, then sharpened a bit and that's all.

Another vote for the square crop. I see more detail in the horses in this one as well. Very nice.
Amazing barn/stable in the background! Where was it taken?

I like the crop. As previously said, the original would be better with the horses to the right. Also, maybe it is because I am on a laptop, but the horses seem a little dark to me.
