Default Pink flower

Hey guys,

This is a photo I took a while ago and wasnt quite sure if I liked or not. Took a look at again today and have decided to post it up here for critique.

Should I have kept the front flower only in the frame? Are the unblossed bulbs on the right too distracting? Should I have tried to blur the background a bit more? I took it with my 70-300mm at 255mm, so I don't think I could have opened the apperture wider than f/5.6.

Any general comments and critque would also be much appreciated.

To be very simplistic because I'm still learning the more technical aspects, the first thing I notice is the framing. I find this photo slightly awkward to look at and I think I want the flower that's in focus to be more centred. My eye is automatically drawn to the flower bud near the top that is out of focus, but obviously that isn't much to look at so my eyes then search for what this photo is trying to capture.

She is lost in the crowd. Crop off just above her petals and see what you think. Don't crop the right side though. With big flowers such as this one group shots don't work to well unless you get down to their level and shoot across a field of them. Jim

Thanks for your comments.

I took this photo as well but didnt think it was interesting enough from this angle, hence why I went portrait and captured both. Does this work better compositionally?

Did a little post production to enhance colour saturation and played with curves. Did I overdo that?

The second photo is much better. Google the Rule of Thirds, you may find the information helpful. It's why the first photo attracts the eye to the bud and not the flower. The second shot is very nice.

Second photograph is nice! I like the juxtaposition between the dead flower and the live one. Jim
