Default her black companion. . .

I was out in the terrace when i took this photo. It was something unusual for a pigeon and a raven to sit so close, that too in that pose. I do like this shot and hope you do too. But im posting it here and not in the SYS section because i want to know if there are any faults you can find. Any corrections to be made. Anyway that i could have presented this photo better? Please so tell me. Thanks.

I think you have a very strong subject in this image. The composition could be better for example if both birds were facing the same way and you had them placed at the left or right 1/3rd line, but I guess that was out of your control.

I love the background blur, with my 70-300mm lens I have been unable to acheive it this pronounced at similar f-stops. I did notice the raven is a little out of focus, maybe you could have closed the aperture a bit to increase the DOF and sacrificed a little of that background blur? Also, you are using a very small ISO. Perhaps increasing this to 200 would have allowed you to increase the shutter speed and get the image slightly sharper?

Just a few thoughts, I'm very new to photography.

Keep shooting!

hey thanks pal. Those were really some good thoughts. And yeah, maybe the raven could have been a litte more in focus. But at that time i was sooo afraid that they might fly away, i did everything as fast as i could. About the ISO, i read that they increase noise when you increase them? So i usually restrict myself to 100. Is it ok to increase it?

I try to start low 200 or 400 for daylight shots. For daylight bird moving I will go 800 to get the increase in shutter speed. It may depend on the camera I shoot with a Canon T2i.
I would think any model should be able to handle 400 to 800 easily. Flickr: jacknoswho's Photostream

I do however like the shot you got! Very nice work!
