I like this shot, but.........................
Are the wings to blurry? It just seems to be lavking something. Not sure if it is the crop or if it just isn't sharp enough on the birds to keep my attention but I keep falling back to the open field.

I think doing a levels adjustment to bring the highlights down and slightly increase the midtone would help. Not sure without seeing it done, but maybe cropping off a little on the left?

Take this from a new guy... but I like the blurry wings, as it gives a sense of movement. I would try what Mike said though, cropping a bit to the left and maybe a bit from the bottom.

I'm curious though, is that a crop from a bigger picture or did you follow those birds with your 400mm lens? I've been trying to get good pictures of flying things (birds, butterflies, etc.) and it seems more like a hit and miss (mostly miss).

It is a little bit of a crop but not a lot I think it was at 33%. I have been practicing panning. I got two okay shots that day out of 168 I wear out memory cards!
BUT.... this new 70-200 f2.8L IS has that second IS setting for panning. It works pretty sweet. I had a 2x teleconverter on it also, I pay a price for sharpness with that and have to shot at a higher ap but I like it! I am going to try the editing suggested at least the crop. I don't do so well at levels and what not!

I agree the blurred wings do not bother me but I would like a lot tighter crop to show more of the ducks and less of the field. If you want to see some awesome bird shots go to birdphotographers.net as they have some great shots of birds and also a critique forum as well.
