Default look into the soul

This is my first post on here. I am truly a novice photographer, I am the proud owner of a Nikon 3100, and am just playing with it at the min and experimenting. I took this pic of my own horse, who was far too interested in what I was doing so came very close up to investigate. I love the reflection in her eye - if you look closely you can see me taking the pic, plus another horse and my other half in the background!

Any comment would be useful in my developmentas an ameature photographer!

Welcome to DPS.

Usually in critique section we like for people to ask specific questions to help us help you or if you're just really excited about a photo and want to share you can always put it in the Share Your Shots part. But as you haven't I will just give my quick impressions of the photo.

You've got nice focus on your horse's eye here which is great. I can't quite make out all the reflections you talk about, but that is probably more visible in a larger image. However you have put the eye almost in the centre of the photo and the rest of the photo is just a little too tight to give it context and so it feels a little disembodied to me - I would have loved to see just a little more of her forehead and nose or her ears. You may want to read up about composition, though with an animal that close its hard to get at times, I know :-)

But the best advice I can give you is to keep shooting and enjoy it. Oh and keep posting back here
