Post Stork - How can I enhance the pic further(If I again get a chance to shoot)

EXIF Data:

Shutter Speed : 1/80
Aperture : f/4.3
ISO : 200
Metering : Multi-Segment
Camera ; Canon SX100 IS(Point & Shoot)

I was confused as to what metering should be used in such scenarios? I didn't used spot metering since I feared camera underexposing the pic. The water seems muddy. How could I have done better there? I edited with GIMP & played with colour mixers & purposefully gave a green tint to the water. What do you suggest to do when I encounter such scenarios in future?

Generally speaking, you want to expose for the highlights, not letting them get blown out, and deal with the shadows in post. If you shoot and process in RAW you will find you have a bit more leeway in the highlights, but for the most part, you don't want them to get blown out. This shot looks like it is overexposed, but again, if you ran this through a RAW processor I suspect you could pull it back in line.

My camera doesn't supports RAW. It does via CHDK but didn't had it turned on while taking the pic,
