Default 'Captive' but very happy lions

IMG_2119

these lions were rescued from a zoo in Romania in apalling conditions. They now have a happy life in their new home in Yorkshire. I tried to capture the emotion in my shot . This is my first post I have only been photographing seriously for 3 months and hope to upgrade to SLR soon. What do you think I could have done better

Canon PowerShot SX30 IS
Exposure 0.004 sec (1/250)
Aperture f/8.0
Focal Length 150.5 mm
ISO Speed 800
Exposure Bias 0 EV

rockinboys,

the lion seems not in focus but the grass. Also paws and its behind are cut off. Since the lion is the very clear subject of the photo I would have tried to have the entire animal in the picture.

The lion has a very focused look on its face, which I do like. It would have been interesting to have the lion's center of attention in the picture.

Hope I am not too harsh on you. Keep shooting.

/p

If you follow some of the above tips you will be well on your way. I have learned from reading the post that if your subject has eyes try to focus them clearly. It has helped me often while shooting with my camera!
Look forward to more post from you!

Read up on focal points for that Powershot. You want your subject to be clearly in focus, but it seems your camera wanted to focus on the grass behind it. Once you learn how to control that in your camera, you'll be on your way to getting better shots.
