I have been trying to understand flash photography for a long time now, not sure if I have got it yet but I know I am getting there.
![]() Camera used: Nikon D40 Aperture: f11 (I used this as this was close to optimum sharpness, should have been f8) ISO: 200 Zoom: 85mm Lens: Nikkor 55 - 200mm f/4-5.6G Shutter Speed: 1/320 I used the built in Flash as I was just experimenting, I also used a black background. I did some minor post processing using iPhoto on my Mac to make it slightly sharper and slightly enhance the colours, and slightly cropped the photo to reduce the amount of negative space and positioned him slightly to the right of centre. What I really like about this photo is the eyes of my dog. You can see the flash in his eyes and some reflection of his surroundings. Would be great to receive comments on what you thought and how I could improve the photo further. Many thanks in advance D Last edited by evejam; 02-13-2011 at 12:22 PM. |

Thank you for your comment,
Only yesterday I spotted the shadow, a friend of mine pointed out to me. I certainly agree with your suggestion of using a speed-light, In my defence I was just experimenting with the flash and trying to understand it further while using the optimum aperture. Will certainly attempt it again using the speed light flash I have and will use it form an angle to add dome depth. Many thanks for your comments :-) D |
