Default Gulls in the water

Hey, Im new to photography. Just got my first camera for Christmas. I love this photo but i want to know how i can make it better.

Here is the link to what all should be included (or not) in your posts in the critique section.

I'd crop it a bit closer to get rid of the twigs in the corner and to get rid of some of the dead space.
I do like how you converted this to ab&w and the contrast on the birds. Nature doesnt always cooperate real well so you have to learn to manipulate her. Watch your subject for awhile and learn their habits. That way you can anticipate what they might do. This one for instance, might be a better angle a little lower at the edge of the water perhaps.

thanks for the input, I never thought of shooting at a lower angle, i will give that a go next time! And the cropping sounds great, I'll give it a shot.
