Default Same Rafe different lens.

Hi all,

After allot of consideration I decided to get the Tameron SP AF28-75 F/2.8 XRDi lens and so far I am pleased. I took this shot yesterday of Rafe with it and would like to know what your thoughts on the general quality of of the shot are pertaining to the lens.

DSC_4322_2

The lens was on the D5000. The picture was taken at around noon with overcast conditions. The picture was cropped but only slightly.

F-stop f/3.3
Ex Time 1/180 sec.
ISO-200
Focal length 75mm
No Flash

He's handsome.

I took a look at the larger version on Flickr and it looked pretty sharp to me. His nose is a tad soft (although I didn't notice that in the smaller version) but that is probably due to the wider aperture.

The exposure is very good by the way. Getting detail in the black areas is a challenge.

Thanks karen_s,

He is a handsome boy and he sits for me well. Probably should have shot this at a higher f and got his left eye and nose a bit more in focus. I am feeling quite lucky today about the way this picture turned out because I shot my son's hockey game last night with this lens and not one picture was in focus or sharp at all. They all seemed to have ok brightness and color looked ok but not sharp at all. I had been shooting hockey with the 70-300 4.5/5.6VR nikon and was getting some half way sharp shots. I guess there will be a learning curve to using this lens for hockey probably because it doesn't have VR and those hockey players wont sit still like ol Rafe

Give the lens a little time. I know it took me awhile to figure out my 70-200 2.8 but it was worth the time and effort and I am quite pleased with it now. I find it to be it's sharpest in the f/5.8 to 8 range. And indoor sports are quite challenging. I found a lot of good info in the sports and gear sections of this forum that has helped me make the most of my equipment.

Give Rafe a pat on the head for me
