Default Rule of third - should it be used all time?

Hi,
I took this picture and I think something is missing. I can't point what is missing. The right third looks capture my eyes instead of the left third (where the bee is taking action).
What do you think I should do in order to make it better?

It might work better to put some blank space on the left, which would create some contrast and as your eye moved from the blank to the flower, you'd see the bee. As people say, rules are made to be broken, although with enough blank space on the left, you might end up with the bee on the right rule of thirds line.

To me the right is accentuated because of the lighting. The bright leaves are what draw my eye.

Take hold of the rules, know them, use them to your benefit, then break them.

What Sime said.

Rules are made to be broken.

I agree that the rule of thirds doesn't have to be followed... but it might be useful in this case. The right side draws my eyes more because of the higher contrast. The bee is a bit lost on the left because there is a lack of contrast to make it pop out.

Sample crops using Golden Spiral & Rule of Thirds:

You can consider using color, brightness, saturation, contrast, defocus etc. to highlight the focal point of your photo.

Think "Rule of Thirds" as a theorem of geometry. You just want to know when to use the right ones.

You don't get extra points by using any of the rules. They are just visual aids to explain why certain pictures looked nice.

I like the golden spiral crop better. Where did you get those templates? Those might come in handy!

Free download Item #28 (Golden Spiral) from "http://www.shanzcan.com/photoshop/photoshop.html".

Rule of Thirds comes from the software "Atrise Golden Section".
