Default Feathered Friends

Trying to take pictures of the birds that were sitting on the fence eating from my bird feeder. It is a dark and gray day. I am taking pictures with the window open, but through the screen. All the pictures I took are gray and not very sharp, I am really disappointed. Is there anything that I could have done differently to make this better?
Thanks for your comments!

I'd straighten the fence so the text is in line with it.
I might try to use the unsharp filter to try and sharpen them up. You can also play with levels to bring out the colors, contrast and brightness more

Yes, you are right about the fence.
When you say play with the levels, you mean in post processing?
Thanks for your suggestions!!

I sure do. Levels or curves will help with the contrast and colors

Thanks again! I am going to go back and play around with some of the other pictures I took that day and see what I can do.
