Default resting swan

Took this at a nearby park last month. The background in the original was dark but with distracting lights on the water so I removed them. Does the black background work here? Also I cropped to keep the focus on the head and eyes. Too close?

Thanks for any comments or suggestions!

Yes, the black background works well and it isn't too close.
Amazing photo! I love how the swan is looking at the camera.

Thanks for checking, Windrider. I thought I had included the info but I overlooked it. I'll double check next time!

Default Frame

Try putting a 3 layer frame 10px white, 5 px the color of beak of swan, and again 10px white.

Thanks for the suggestion -- I'll give it a try and see what it looks like!

Usually framing makes good photos look cheap, but that's just my opinion.
I framed my photos too when I was beginning regular photography. At first I thought it looked cool, but at some point my opinion changed pretty drastically...framing started to look like a distraction.
If you want to frame, I'd say keep it simple and vary narrow!

Same goes with watermarking. Small, simple and classic. Not distracting.
Again, I don't like most of the watermarks I see around. They don't do much in preventing the possible theft online. Always upload low-resolution photos only! That's much more effective.

Off-topic, I know, but just had to say =)

Great photo! Nice detail and compostion. The black definitely works for this photograph! Instead of using DoF to pull the subject from the background and make it stand out, you have the contrasts. I loves it!
