Default Smudge

I've been trying to get a decent shot of my hound that depicts her normal speed. (full speed ahead) I like this shot, but was wondering if I should crop some of the right side? I'm thinking not, cause It gives her someplace to go. Thoughts? Also....is the lack of her forth leg a big deal? (A friend asked if she was a three legged dog) I'm pretty much a noob,so unsure if i should just trash this one...and keep trying to get all those legs in the frame. Not much I can do about colour as I'm pretty badly colour blind.

I think that shot is excellent! Great depiction of motion with blur and great sharpness on the eye. That's a difficult combo to pull off. I think the crop is fine and only the most unimaginative would assume a three legged dog.

Don't trash it if you like it. And keep trying because it's fun. =)
Remember that in photography, as in all art forms, other people's opinions are always secondary to your own.
Of course I understand the need for critique, but don't ever ask anyone else but yourself if you should trash something or not.

I like this photo. I would probably add a little more contrast.

I like it too! Love the motion blur.. I've also got a 'full steam ahead' dog and have been trying to pull off a shot like this without success but I'll keep trying. TFS

Do not trash this photo!
I really really like it. As Sterling said, it is not an easy task to get a panning shot of a dog with the eyes that sharp.
I wouldn't crop it either.
It does need a little more contrast though.
Good work!

I couldn't agree more. I smiled when I saw that one eye surrounded by a whirl of blur. This shot sooooo captures the joy of a dog.

As far as the missing leg, I didn't even notice because the focal point and subject are so strong. I wouldn't worry about it.

I absolutely agree with the others that it's a keeper! I love the fact that while her body is at full speed, as captured so well by the motion blur, every detail of the head conveys a real sense of calm, as though moving at that pace is no big deal! A fun shot!

WOW!

To get the dog's eyes in such focus with the remainder of the photo being blurred takes talent!

I would suggest a curves adjustment just to make the colors pop.

And, I am a dork. Another suggestion: Just for fun, if you're bored, you could always try a Bourne Identity adjustment since the movie poster for that used motion blur. Photoshop Tutorials: Color, Motion Blur - Bourne Ultimatum

(In this case, you'd really just have to change your coloring!)

Hey thanks Lauren;

Thank you for the link.I'm kinda intimidated by PS, so that stepXstep is cool.I
ll even give that curves adjustment a whirl...though...being colour blind, what I see as colour "popping" might be colour EXPLODING for everyone else. **lol**
Thanks again......Craig
