Default Pic of a schnauzer

Hi everyone. I bought my first DSLR Nikon D3100 and this is one the few pictures I took with it. My friend just left for vacation and he left Elly at home. Look at how she misses him!

Camera: Nikon D3100
Aperture: f/1.8
Shutter: 1/40
ISO: 200
Lens: Nikkor 50mm 1.8 D

What do you all think? How can I shoot this photo better? Thanks!

Cute little gal, but the photo is fuzzy.

I happen to have a schnauzer companion. He’s very energetic, running about, playing with the cat. So I have to be fast if I want a good pix.

I would suggest, to put the camera in burst mode, use a fast shutter speed and get down on her level. Focus on the eyes.

Looking at mom, wondering what she's doing on the other side of the wall.

I think it's less a problem with the dog moving and more to do with being too far away from the cage. You have a large aperture already, if you'd just got a little closer to the cage the depth of field would have blurred the bars right out of existence!
