Bee in Flight

Taken with a Nikon D3000, colors and levels adjusted in GIMP.

Specifically, I'd like to know what people think about the color balance and just about the composition in general. I sort of agonized about the colors on most of the photos from this shoot, and cropping decisions were no fun either. Thanks for any help you can give me!

As far color balance, do you mean white balance?

Personally, the photo seems to be a photo of a flower with a bee next to it. I don't see the bee being the main subject. You'd probably need a macro lens to capture a photo in which the bee is without a doubt the main subject.

I'd suggest not using flash. For me, the pop-up, built-in flash has its own obvious look, and it gives most photos a typical 'snapshot' look, opposed to a more professional look. I'd suggest taking advantage of more natural lighting (increasing your ISO, if you must,) with flower photography.
