Default Giraffe

Guys,

Took this photo the other day, I would really like some thoughts about the composition and also whether the background is too white. I fear I might have fallen into the "keeping the subject in the centre rule" trap. It was a very overcast day and would like to know what you think.

DSC_0169

Details:
Camera - Nikon D60
Lens - Tamron 70-300mm
Aperture - F8.0
Shutter Speed - 1/320
Focal Length - 170mm
ISO - 200

Cheers,
Gareth

The white sky is what is giving you that nice even light. So although a blue sky might look better, it would also come with a lot of harsh, dark shadows.

I suggest not cutting off the antlers next time and there is quite a bit of dead space on the right.

Personally (but a beginner!) I like the light back ground. If you wanted to be super critical, the middle of the ear could be a fraction to the right to lead in better for the rot (personally I would use that rather than the eye as I like the white space to the right). I guess a couple of steps to your right (or if you speak giraffe and called to him) may have had him looking a little more 3d?

For what it is worth, I like it.

Thumbs up

I like it. The only thing I would do is maybe take a couple of steps back. The white sky doesn't bother me though.
