Default Grumpy Dog

I am looking for just general feedback. I am new and don't know too much about the technical aspect of taking pictures. What can I improve upon in this shot? Unfortunately, I don't have the information like aperture/shutter speed etc. I already downloaded it off of my camera. I am using the Nikon D5000. Thanks for your feedback.....

Sam

Hey Sam,

First thing for the exif data- it's actually embedded in the photo file. Flickr does a good job of extracting it. If you're using the new page version, you can find "view exif" under the "Actions" drop down menu. If you're still on the old page view, I believe there's a little bit of blue text that says something like "more info." Either way, it'll take you to this page where you can see the data. You shot:
Camera Nikon D5000
Exposure 0.017 sec (1/60)
Aperture f/5.3
Focal Length 165 mm
ISO 1000
No Flash
0 EV

As for critique, I like the shot. There's some good emotion in the dog's eyes. It's a bummer that his nose is buried behind that tuft of grass. I'd have liked to have seen that. Anyway, good luck, keep shooting. I'm a D5000 user too and I love that camera!

Hi AndrewPDX, I almost want to find the dog and give it a hug! I like the mix of soft and sharp focus in the shot. I think you did great.
