I caught this horse colt testing the yucca blooms. It was mid-day (harsh lighting, I know! )
I would just appreciate some general critique. I'm a self-learner and just trying to learn more! Thanks yall!

i am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination.....but i would lower your iso to 100 and maybe using a polarizing filter would help too.....but to me the subject more than makes for any technical flaws there may be....too cute for words....i love horses

Definitely lower the ISO - 100-200 is fine for a bright sunny day. Also his head is a little out of focus - you seemed to have focused on the hindquarters, and the relatively large aperture coupled with the focal length means the head is just out of the depth of field - with the bright sunshine you could have safely closed the aperture a bit to eliminate this without sacrificing too much shutter speed.

A good general rule with animals (humans are animals too by the way, so the rule applies!) is to always focus on the eyes or at least the head.

Live and learn!

I had my camera on an auto setting, and i cant tell you which one at this point. This definitely helps me though. I really need to venture out of my comfort zone and play with the adjustments more!

I think he's adorable! The picture is begging for a little more space around him, as the environment is as interesting as the foal.

Give it a go, definitely. You can always snap a shot in auto just to get it, then switch to a manual mode and try it with adjusted settings. Another joy of digital!

Yes, you may eat the horse, though others may take issue with it?
Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I agree with all the others by the way.
