Default Gorilla at the Zoo

I shot this girl at the Milwaukee County Zoo with my D5000 & a 55-200 lens. The lighting was less than desirable. I think what really makes the shot is the eye contact. Her and I had a moment there and I was lucky enough to steal it. Let me know what you think. & no she is not giving me the finger. The zoo attendant informed us that she was actually wearing a splint to heal her broken finger.

This is a beautiful shot. I love how you cropped out the rest of the zoo elements.

Omg! Really powerfull shot! The gaze of the gorilla is golden in this photo!
In my opinion I'd crop the photo to include only the portrait of the gorilla with its hands in a vertical or square format. I'd also brighten its face a bit because of the colour of the gorilla. Furthemore the background gets a bit distracting since the pieces of wood are brighter, more contrast than the gorilla.

Hope I helped!

Regards,
Alex Cican

Nice shot. I agree that you should brighten the face some. But what's really bugging me is that the gorilla appears to be making a lewd hand gesture. I would try to fix that with cloning.

Thanks for all the tips. I edited my post to include camera info. This was one of my first posts and first shots with that camera. I have since modified the picture to brighten up the face which looks much better. I chose not to mess with her finger because it really didn't bother me and it adds just a little to the experience when I have to explain that she had a broken finger and the zookeepers tried to make the splint match her skin tone, otherwise she rips it off.

A great pose and nicely framed in my opinion, but there is a strong red cast that needs to be removed. Try desaturating the red channel until it looks more natural. Also the background is lighter than the subject and is a bit distracting, try darkening the background or lightening the gorilla. I think a bit of sharpening wouldn't go amiss either.
