Talking processed cat ;)

hey all...

this pic was captured in daylight using camera's black n white feature...
i processed it a bit to enhance the contrast levels to bring out the blacks in the pic...but i dont think i was really successful in getting what i wanted...in the process i also ended up giving a greenish tinge to the whole image...
cn u critique on the post production that has been done n hw it cld hv been better...
not to mention, please critique on the image as a whole since m a fairly new photography enthusiast so i would like to know hw this image cld ve been better...
FYI...i had cropped little empty space on the left...
shot with SONY A200

Overall, it's a nice picture. It's well balanced and the focus is where you most often want it to be, on the eyes. Your vantage point is pretty good too as it looks like you got down closer to the cats eye level. The lack of clutter in the background is very nice too, really helps the viewer focus on the cat. Darn nice attempt for being fairly new to photography.

The post process work is pretty good. The ranges of tones work but I'm not too wild on the green tint. It's not wrong by any means and this just may be more of a personal preference, but I would tend more toward the warmer colors for tinting an image of an animal, like warm grays or browns. Understanding the meaning of color and how we interpret it can really help you apply it to your photos in more meaningful ways. Just google "color theory" or "color and emotions" and you will find a plethora of info.

One tip for shooting black and white is to actually shoot the image in raw and in full color, then convert to black and white in post processing. The reason is that you have a lot of color information to manipulate rather than just shades of gray. It can be done either way, it's just another option to play with.

Hope this helped a little.
