Unhappy Lions at zoo - smudges on glass

IMG_0050_3

I took this through glass. Is there a way I can remove the smudges? I have GIMP installed on my Mac.

I have GIMP on my Mac, too.

You should be able to remove the smudges by either (1) using the cloning tool or (2) using free select to pick an area with the color that you'd like to paste on top of some of the smudges; then hit edit, copy; then edit, paste; then drag the selected area over a smudge; then click somewhere else on the photo to anchor the selection; then, repeat as necessary, starting again with the "paste" step.

Hope that makes sense.

For some great tutorials on using The Gimp, you might want to try this Meet The Gimp site.

Please be sure to read thru the guidelines and include the information it asks for. Thanks a million for doing so!

I'm sure by now you've probably already corrected this, but there's a plugin in gimp called "resynthesizer". I think the mac version comes standard with it, but it's pretty easy to find in the plugin registry if you just do a quick search for it. It will allow you to draw a bubble around whatever unwanted object there is and then it will replace it and make it more or less look like the background. It's not perfect, but I've successfully used it a few times.

Also, if possible, get your lens right up against the glass which will help blur out the smudges on the glass just as it does with those on your lens itself.
