Great Capture,
The two things that strike me (Just my humble opinion) the greenery to the left keeps pulling me away from the subject. I think it may be the closeness of the hedge on the left. Have you considered a vertical crop, making the bird the central subject? Secondly, he is a bit shadowed, you can get around this slightly by tweaking the light/exposure/contrast to lighten the image, more importantly the background and then increasing the saturation slightly to 'warm' the kingfisher back up, sharpening slightly as/if required. (I'm no expert, I just got there by tweaking in Lightroom). Hope you don't mind, I had a play with him to show you what I mean. (It's linked on my Flickr, I'll take it back down tomorrow, once you've had a look.) ![]() You could likely get a better result still with more time taken than I did and cropping from the original. Well that's really just pp advice, with regards to shooting, I'd just recommend with wild birds to just get as many shots off as you can on the subject. There's usually one that will stand out from the rest. It usually takes me at least 20 or more shots to find one that I like when I get home.
