Default Grey or white background???

I took these shots of some birds a while back am unsure about thest processing, which backround looks better? The sky was very blue and clear on the day and I wasn't really sure how to tackle it a black and white. I quite like the almost minimalist look of the scene with the white backround. Please offer me some advice I would like enter a couple in a competition. I have included the original aswell. Fow the link Flickr.
Thanks Kim

The first thing to strike me in this photo is the way the grouping of Cranes on the dead tree takes on the shape of a well formed Bonsai tree. I think the minimalist look of the white background helps to preserve the image. A grey background (IMO) would wash out some of the impact in the form of the composition. Framing with a black frame would certainly help the pop factor of the image. Very eye catching work.

Love it as is. Looks like one of those ink paintings with a soft, wide brush. Good luck, great shot!
