D300 400mm f2.8
1/125, f5.0, ISO200, -0.3ev I'd appreciate comments for improvement on this photograph. I spend many, many hours each summer photographing nesting birds from a distance and am anxious to improve my techniques. many thanks. douglas |

Nice shot! If only there's no branch blocking the view of the right bird it would be even better

What a shame about that small twig! You have a wonderful shot of the chicks with the backlighting really setting them off. You have captured the sunlight making the skin on their beaks look translucent and the crew-cut is so sharp it made me catch my breath! I would be tempted to try and remove the thin twig with cloning but it would be very difficult over the beak area. I realise it is not advisable to reach in and move the twig - mother bird may never return or the chicks could even leap out of the nest, so the best I can suggest is to move around for the clearest POV. Do take more - you have a talent with your camera!
