I like the framing. Good angle to get the shot from and the tiger has a great look. I get the subdued color look that you were going for, but I wonder if there is anything you could do to make him pop a bit more off of that stone background. Did you try experimenting with the levels at all?

I am not sure what you mean about the levels as I am new to photography. I haven't photo shopped the picture at all yet. Could you suggest some way of making the tiger pop out more. I LOVE his eyes they are very mesmerizing to me.

I've been to the Memphis Zoo, but I don't remember this kitty there!

If you have Photoshop, you can use a levels adjustment filter there:
--Open the image
--In your layers pallette, click on the circle icon near the bottom that is the 'New Adjustment Layer' icon
--You will see options pop up once you click, and choose the 'Levels' option
--Then you will see a funny mountain-shaped image type of thing pop up
--Use the three cursors underneath that mountain-shape image, and you will see changes in the photo when you move those around

It is easy and fun! :-)

Hey Tiffany,

Yes, programs like Photoshop can be really helpful if the image from your camera needs a few tweaks. Obviously, it's good practice to take the shot the way you want it the first time, but there's no shame in making tweaks in post.

Photoshop or Photoshop Elements (cheaper, fewer features) are great products. There are also a few free online programs that can do similar tasks.

I've attached a version of your shot where I made a few changes to the lighting, increased the contrast, and bumped up the saturation a bit. It isn't anything drastic, but it does give the tiger a little more punch. The final look of any shot is a choice we all make, so just because I might think this is an improvement, it doesn't mean you have to agree with me. In the end, your vision for the shot is always the most important. Thanks for sharing, I hope to see more!

Thank you both for the reply! I do like the fixe image you did for me. The lighting is a little better and the tiger pops a little more.

Unfortunately the version of photoshop I have is free, i can make some adjustments but not enough. Thank you for the help I appreciate it

What are some other free programs you know about to correct images or do you know about how much photoshop generally runs?

GIMP is a free program that I know a lot of people use. I've never tried it, so I can't really comment on its capabilities. Check it out here.

The full program of Photoshop is quite expensive. However, they do offer a slimmed down version called Photoshop Elements that you can get for $100 or less. Check it out here.

Good luck, keep shooting. Check out my tiger shot a few threads down from yours if you get a chance. I think your Tiger is definitely a more interesting cat. I wonder if they're different species?

i love this photo!
tigers are always graceful in my opinion, and seem to make the perfect subject for any photo.
the coloring of the tiger seems to be a bit different to me.
maybe it's the fact he's lying on his stomach/side?
he just doesn't seem all orange.
i may not have any critiques, since i'm new to photography, but i felt like commenting on your photo. (:

Thank you. He was an all white tiger with stripes. No orange.
