Default Horse Scratch

Hello everyone. I'm somewhat of an amateur when it comes to photography and always looking to improve. I'm curious to know what you guys think of my latest shot.

Tommy

Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS
Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250)
Aperture: f/9.0
Focal Length: 179 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Mode: Manual

Any advice on what to improve is welcomed. Since I'm new to all this I'm not always sure what I'm looking for. I know the basics of how my camera works, but I'm not always sure of what looks good as far as the final image is concerned. I often feel like my pictures are boring or repetitive.

Yes you have the settings for taking your lovely companion, being able to get detail on white fur is not easy. However I am not comfortable with your composition. The picture does show an action but the eye is hidden - a fraction of a second later and the eye would have been visible. I would have liked to have seen at least one hoof as well as the eye (and the tip of the nose). I realise that taking photos of your horse does seem like taking shots that everyone else has taken but your horse has a character of its own so look for that to bring out the best in your pictures.
