Smile Jazz the cat in b&w

I took this photo yesterday in my living room using light through the window. I played around in lightroom (which I have recently discovered and LOVE), changed it to black and white and upped the contrast quite a bit.

I really like how it turned out, I love the black background and the light on his face. What I do not like is the ugly collar (it's a flee collar, so not very appealing) but I am definitely not confident enough with Photoshop to be able to edit it out haha. Maybe someday...

Anyways, here's the general info:
Camera: Canon 350D
Lens: Canon 50mm f/1.8 II
exposure: 1/100
aperture: f/2.0

I would love to hear any thoughts on how it turned out and what I could do better next time... thank you!

I like this picture! I think you've done a good job of capturing mood. agreed about the collar. Have you tried frontline? We find that works great for our cats.

I LOVE the reflection in his eyes. That really brings it all to life.

i love kitties!
Very nice capture! My eye is so strongly drawn to his eye and facial profile I don't know if I would have even noticed the collar unless you mentioned it! Nice work, nice conversion.

Yes I love this too and agree did not notice the collar until you said. I want to take some shots of my kittens but can't get them to stay still for long enough!

Nice picture. The collar goes quite unobserved until you know about it. The crop is a little tight around the ears

Very nice. Didn't even notice the collar until you mentioned it. Since you're working low-key on the background, it is really easy to add a bit of space above the ears.

It is a nice balanced shot, as my cat was a indoor cat never used a flee color, but you could use the zoom and than clone it out a little bit at a time. Check some of the before and after shots and you will see plenty of them where the clone tool was used.
I think overall it is a solid shot suitable for framing.

Love the expression! but i would prefer if the cat is positioned a bit to the left, maybe crop the left and a bit of the bottom, that way i think the collar would be less noticeable...although i don't think it's much of a distraction actually..

I agree - I think the facial features, the eyes and the cat's gaze to the right all draw attention away from the collar.

Nice capture!
