Default hmm...

As far as post-processing stuff goes, i.e., what you can do with this particular photo, the colors are just a tad...I don't want to say "bland", but the photo is almost all one shade, kinda.

You could try turning up the saturation and/or contrast a tad to make the deer pop out more, if you desire that effect. Tweaking the brightness just a hair might look cool too, as overall the photo seems just a little dim to me.

As far as "what I'd have done" if we could magically rewind the world and take our photos differently, I might have tried a slightly lower angle and a wider shot to get more of the deer in it and/or a background more distinct in color from the deer to make it stand out more. *edit* I forgot to mention, you could possibly have taken it with a larger aperture setting as well, as that would have brightened the photo a little and blurred out the background a wee bit as well. As it is though, your depth of field is great, because it has the whole deer pretty much in focus where you can see the "fuzziness" of its fur, hehe.

That said, I doubt going back and getting a similar shot of the exact same "deerthing" is practical or even worth it, but that's my $0.02. I should also mention I'm about the furthest thing from "pro" as it gets at this stuff, but I try to actively comment like this because active participation helps ME as much as it helps the "commentee" at learning how to take better photos. So when I'm inevitably telling someone something that even rookies already know, just pass it off as me thinking out loud. :P

I'd like to finish by saying that I think this is a very sharp, well executed photograph. Very interesting animal.

Default I took the liberty...

...of doing a quick edit of your photo to show you what I was getting at. Hope that's okay! If not, I can remove it. :x Lol.

Using Lightroom, I increased the exposure by +0.20, increased temperature by +21, and I applied a desaturation filter (-100 saturation) to everything but the deer.

isppoet i can see what you're saying but not entirely sure i agree with your execution of it, simply because the deer has changed colour....

Yeah, when I stopped and looked at my "quick and dirty" edit, I realized it was more "dirty" than anything, lol. I actually made the color "sameness" worse because I forgot to add the saturation to the deer like I planned.

But yeah, I wasn't sure what the deer thingy's original color was B) I was just kinda improvising trying to warm it up and mainly increase the exposure a tad, haha.

Anyhow, just some ideas for you to kick around, hehe.
