Default What am I doing wrong?

Okay so when I saw this momma monkey comforting or cuddling with her baby it was very emotional to me. However I just couldn't seem to capture that feeling in the pic for some reason. Oh, and I think this is as close as I could zoom. Any suggestions?

The first one appears to be overexposed to me. It is blown out in the highlights. Looking at your stats, I see you have an iso speed of 500. Isn't that pretty high for an outdoor sunny shot? Also the picture seems noisy/grainy. This would be reduced by a lower iso, I think.

Aperture: f/5.6
ISO Speed: 500

Also, more of the image needs to be in focus. A smaller aperture would help this.

The last one really is kinda nice, but I would crop off the right edge of the image where it is too bright.

Okay didnt even notice the ISO. I had it set to Auto ISO because every place I went in the zoo it changed. I will have to pay closer attention to that. Thank you.

It was on auto? Hmm. that kind of puzzles me, then. You'd think auto would've caught that.

Maybe someone with oodles more expertise will come along and shed some light.

Yeah this zoo has so many shaded and light spots that it was a pain so I just set it on auto. I may have been under a shaded roof. Not sure if that would have caused it to think 500 was needed.

That 3rd picture is very tender.

So if I'm in a shade but the subject is in the bright sun ... I guess the ISO should be set for subject? Sorry I am still very new to this.
