Default Elephant portrait

Elephant portrait

I took this one with my Sony alpha 100 and the 500 mm mirror lens. iso 200, shutter 1/250, f -8

the lens has a fixed aperture at f-8, so I can't play around with DOF. I like thew image but do you think?

Cheers, Jörg

I'm not quite sure what your question is? Would you mind asking something more specific? Please and thank you!

Sorry, I would love to hear what other people think when looking at the image.
I was wondering if this is too dark or just plain too close for a portrait. With an exposure like this is there something you can do with post processing to make it better or different? I am new to this forum, so sorry if my question was confusing.

Thanks, Jörg

looking at your exif:
Camera: Sony DSLR-A350
Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250)
Aperture: f/8.0
Focal Length: 500 mm
ISO Speed: 200

I'd say a very nice job of getting a sharp image...your shutter speed was too slow...I have to assume you used a tripod.

I like the crop and the lighting and overall exposure. I don't think I'd mess with it.

Yes, you could do something "different" than this, and you might want to, but you won't necessarily get anything "better" than this.

Hi SK66,
thanks for the reply,
I actually did not crop the image this is the full frame. I used it handheld and not a tripod as they were walking constantly.
Do you think a bit sharpening might help?
Since i am new to PP can you give me a few pointers what one could do to this picture? I do have photoshop and would love to play around with a few images. I just did not know what to do with an image like this one.

Again, thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it.

Cheers, Joerg

I like the crop is the same as I like the framing, but getting it right without cropping is a bit harder and excellent job handholding...shutter speed probably should have been closer to 1/750...

I don't see a need for sharpening...
You could edit a copy of this and mess around with shadow/highlights and layer modes to see what you can come up with, but I would keep the original as is.

Thanks again, I have one more stupid question!
How can you look at the exif data of the image on flickr? I tried to find it myself but was not able to.

Thanks, Jörg

after you click on the picture, on the right hand side you should see something that says properties ... that will have your EXIF information

Are you sure the aperture is "fixed" and not just a maximum of f/8?

I like the image as is. Nice and a bit moody.
