Default Roseate Spoonbill

This is my very first post. There was no post production. Not sure if it needs any, but being new to photography, I am always open to suggestions and critique. It was taken at sunset, so I got lucky with good lighting and color.

Spoonbill

Took it with my 18-55mm lens from about 15 ft away. Manual focus and actual just used the sunset mode on the camera.

I like the tone and the mesmerizing eye, i just can't get my eyes off it
but I find the branch in front of it's beak quite disturbing

Thanks for the reply. Now that I continue to look at the branch I see what you mean. Just one of those situations that I didn't want to move or the photo op might have been blown. Thanks again. We shoot first and learn later I suppose.

Looking at the larger image on flickr it is apparent you haven't sharpened the image. Every image that is being resized for display on the web should be resharpened to maximise the quality of the displayed photograph so for me that would be the minimum post processing required for any image. The branch is very distracting and personally I would of tried to move sideways to get a clear shot. The colouration in the plumage and around the eye is beautiful

Having said that shooting wildlife with a 18-55 lens is, imho, not acceptable as you will be well inside the birds 'circle of safety' and even if it is not apparent you will be scaring it.

Thanks for the reply. I'm still new to photography, so not quite up to speed on my lenses, and which lens for what. That will come with gaining experience I hope. Any feedback I get is greatly appreciated and will be used, so thank you for that.
