basket cat

This is a picture I took of my cat. It's supposed to reflect her personality, but I'm not sure I should have focused on the basket instead of the cat. Also, I;m interested in thoughts on the lighting, and anything else you notice. I'm very new to this.

Ah, sorry. New to this. I'm assuming exif info means:

(it's the point-and-shoot digital sort of camera...I'm saving for a DSLR)
close-up mode
ISO auto
exposure compensation +1.5
no flash, but a lamp was nearby

very interesting.. makes yo'r cat look like a very ambiguous character! but the cat doesn't seem to be the subject.. she comes across more as a shadow in the background.. did yo use macro??

I like it. Its different from most cat shots. I think it OK that you focused on the basket since all you can see are his ears. If his head was resting on the side or eyes were open and peeking over the basket, I would focus on his eyes. I think its a very neat picture, but I love cats, especially black ones. So I might be biased.

I think the title isn`t quite good as you can barely see the cat....

Though I'm all for breaking the rules whenever possible, one rule I follow more often than not is to have the subject in focus.

To me, by focusing on the basket, the shot appears to be one with the basket as the subject with a portion of a cat that happened to be in the basket.

Also, the cat does appear a bit underexposed.
