I took this picture after getting as close as i could to a coyote last weekend. I think it came out good but it has gotten some low rating on other websites and I don't know what i should do different. Lighting? Editing? Composition? What can I do to improve the work? Thanks http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/a...ch/coyote1.jpg

It is a good shot of a coyote. But as a photograph it does have some flaws. There are quite a few areas of blown out exposure. And while it looks like the coyote's face is in focus, it also looks like the coyote's body is slightly out of focus. Compositionally, the legs are cut off a bit awkwardly and the blurry stuff in the foreground is kind of messy.

Wonderful shot !!!
I've been an outdoorsman in Idaho for over 30 years - (Land of the Coyotes) - you get 5 miles out of town and they're like flies... I'm also a former Army Spec Forces LRRP - trained to spend days in the wilderness and never be seen or heard... I can tell you that I've never been that close to a Coyote, (and I've tried .. ) and at 105mm, you were pretty darn close !! Aside from those desperate/ill Coyotes that appear in the Metropolitan suburbs, they're reallllly skitty and shy.. That must have been a real 'rush' at that distance.. ![]() Again - nice shot !! |
