Default Red Fox

My main question on this photo is about the right eye. Does it bother you that it is so dark, I like it. Also, is there enough color in this picture or is it to boring.

Thumbs up

It's perfect. IMO. Is this shot taken in the wild? If so, your very fortunate to get a shot that close as you did of these guys. Maybe once in a lifetime. It's Natural looking. The pic is awesome. TFS

Thanks jim greer, it was in the wild. I have been photography this one, and its brothers and sisters, since it was a baby.

CheesWizz you're a member of this fox family now as I see in your response this is the same one you've been shooting for a while. You've improved a lot since the first shot you showed here and congratulations on improving and keeping after these guys. The eye is a little dark and you could help it in post if you have the software. Even being a tad dark around the one eye I still like the photo. Being taken in the wild means that the little lighting issue is not a big deal as you don't have a lot of choices when shooting this way, maybe use a little fill flash next time but it will probably spook this guy.

I like how you tried to show DOF with the plant on the right but for me i don't particularly like it that it covers the lower part of the fox. All in all great focus and keep it up.

Very nice shot chees, I like it! One of my favorite animals. A couple things that might help...............

1. The extra room on the right doesn't add anything to the composition , so get rid of it.

2. This image lacks small scale contrast. To get small scale contrast, use unsharp mask with a large radius and a small amount. Every image will be different, so you have to zoom in and see what looks best and go from there.

3. A little saturation contrast doesn't hurt either. Decompose to lab color space and increase the contrast of the a and b channel.

4. dodge and burn around the right eye to lighten it a bit.

Here is a quick edit with gimp..............

That is a great shot of a fox. BTW the issue is with the fox's left eye. Please be careful, when wild animals let you get very close they are often Rabbid.

Ahh, finally an animal shot that isn't a cat! Wow, what an amazing capture of such a beautiful animal. I personally found the fox's left eye being dark to be a little distracting. I imagine that could be fixed in photoshop though, am I right? On another note, I appreciate the challenge of framing animals well in their natural habitat with the limited amount of time and whatnot, but I think compositionally the image would look a lot better if the fox's eyes were framed in the upper right third of the image. I suppose you could crop it as such, but you would also lose the gorgeous white plant fluff that is in the bottom of the image. Great image! Gorgeous.
