I don't consider tweaking to be "cheating." I used to, until I realized that it usually meant doing digitally the same things I would be doing in a darkroom. When I make prints from film, I don't give a second thought to cropping an image, dodging and burning to get just the right exposure on the paper, and adding contrast filters. Why should it be any different digitally?
As Ansel Adams once said, "You don't take a photograph, you make it."
