so I am in the process of saving up for the nifty fifty. I would also like to save up for a telephoto lens for taking sports pics and such. i like your suggestion, but i was wondering if the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Autofocus Lens might be a better fit for me. i really don't see a difference between this lens and the Sigma 70-300mmf/4-5.6 Macro APO DG other than IS.
what i'm hoping for is for someone to kindly explain to me the other differences between the two lenses other than the $50 or so dollar differential.

The only gear i have atm is an old Canon Rebel XT with the 18-55 kit, i bought off a friend at a very generous price.
