I guess full frame cameras would give you the best high ISO performance? However, you'll pay dearly for that. Someone else can chime in.

My 50D does quite well but my friend's 7D does much better (for crop bodies)

The Nikon D90 does extremely well as does the D300s (for crop bodies).

Nikon is said to have less noise than Canon at higher ISOs. Not that Canon is bad--I just switched to Canon and have some of the same needs.
